"The Great Redemption" (39)

"The Great Redemption" by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto

-- A Discourse on The End of the Exile and the Beginning of the Great Redemption

Translated by Rabbi Yaakov Feldman

39.

I’ll now reveal another great secret to you about what G-d wants to do to rectify the Jewish Nation and to remove all hate and envy (from its midst). For indeed the prophet had already promised that “Ephraim’s envy will depart and Yehuda’s adversaries will be cut off. Ephraim will not envy Yehuda, and Yehuda will not vex Ephraim” (Isaiah 11:13).

Understand that Yehuda is comprised of two tribes and Ephraim of ten. The two (of Yehuda) will be gathered together in the future by Moshiach Ben Ephraim and be connected to him, and they’ll sing the song that will begin the ascent. The ten others will join along by means of Moshiach Ben David, and all twelve will thus be joined together. As it’s said, “And they will become one in your hand” (Ezekiel 37:17).

Still and all, though, the ultimate ascent will only come about afterwards.
