"The Great Redemption" (35)

"The Great Redemption" by Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzatto

-- A Discourse on The End of the Exile and the Beginning of the Great Redemption

Translated by Rabbi Yaakov Feldman

35.

The souls will leave (exile) first. In fact, the redemption will (only) come about once they’d finished leaving. The groupings of lights will then leave by means of Moshiach Ben Yoseph.

He’ll have to die if his generation doesn’t merit him, though his death will then elevate them. But if his generation *does* merit him, then they’ll ascend without his having to die.

But on the day the wicked Armilus draws close, “The righteous one is (to be) saved from trouble, and the wicked one (will) come in his place” (Proverbs 11:8). Nonetheless the fallen ones will ascend through the power of this emendation.
